OUR VISION

Gateway International Airport represents a historic milestone in Ogun State’s development vision. Initially conceived over a decade ago as a response to the growing congestion at Lagos airports, the project was revitalized and delivered under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun. Guided by his “ISEYA” developmental agenda, the airport evolved into a modern aviation facility designed to unlock new economic and logistic opportunities for the state and the Southwest region.

The airport’s core vision is to be a leading hub for air travel in Nigeria, driving Ogun State’s socio-economic development by enhancing regional and international connectivity. We aspire to set benchmarks in safety, sustainability, and service quality, positioning Ogun State as a key player in Nigeria’s Aviation Sector.

A Strategically Positioned Aviation Hub for Sub-Saharan Africa

Gateway International Airport (GIA), situated in Ogun State, Nigeria, occupies a prime and strategic location within West Africa, providing seamless access for both passenger and cargo operations across Sub-Saharan Africa. Its proximity to major transport corridors, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, ensures rapid connectivity to key economic and industrial hubs, positioning GIA as a central gateway for regional and international aviation.

Built with cutting-edge infrastructure and advanced technical capabilities, GIA is fully equipped to accommodate modern wide-body aircraft, handle high-volume cargo logistics, and facilitate efficient airline operations. These features establish the airport as a future-ready aviation hub, designed to drive regional commerce, enhance logistics efficiency, and stimulate economic growth within Ogun State and the broader West African region.

A major regulatory milestone was achieved on the 3rd of September 2025, when the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)—the nation’s apex aviation regulator—conferred GIA with the Aerodrome Operational Permit, formally authorizing scheduled commercial air transport services. This recognition underscores the airport’s operational readiness, safety compliance, and reliability, reaffirming its role as a trusted hub for airlines, passengers, and cargo operators and a key catalyst for aviation and economic development in the region.
